The assignment needs to be written in MLA format 12 font double spaced times new roman. For the first part: This is a one page (250 words) typed commentary about Considering your major (psychology), what role with strong writing and analytical skills have on your career and/or continued college career?

The second part: This part of the assignment needs to be two paragraphs (10 sentences long each paragraph) the first paragraph is going to explain why you chose to write about the painting from Pablo Picasso called girl before a mirror. The second paragraph will explain the outside sources you will use to help you argue your point in the third part.

The third part: Write a 3.5 page essay examining the significance of the photograph/painting (Pablo Picasso) and why or how the photograph/painting has been elevated to an iconic status.

It will also require you to define the word icon. What does it mean for a photograph/painting to be iconic? It is your job to come up with an argument based on your reading of the photograph/painting as well as your definition of the word icon. This will require you to write about the photograph or painting as well as the artist who created it.

Use Stein and Davenport as models. Both essays do the same thing I am asking you to do. Notice how they examine both the artist and the photograph/painting. This will require a careful reading of the photograph/painting, research, and critical thinking.

As part of the essay, you should research the artist or photograph/painting you are evaluating. What do others say about this artist or his or her photograph/painting? Critically read the photograph/painting, and like Davenport, incorporate your critical reading into your essay.

What is in the foreground and background? What can you infer about the image based on that which surrounds it? Does the photograph/painting symbolize anything? Be sure to have the photograph/painting in front of you as you write.

Finally, argue why this photograph/painting should be viewed as iconic by exploring what it represents, communicates, and/or symbolizes. We will address the following topics: •Fiction •Analyzing Literature This course will cover three genres of literature: fiction, poetry and drama.

We are beginning with fiction, and will read several short stories. We begin with an Alice Walker short story, “Everyday Use,” a story about a mother and her two daughters, one who has remained home with her while the other has gone off to college and never come back–until now.

While we are generally used to such stories being about the successful college graduate coming home to show off how much she’s changed, Walker’s story is really about the mother she left behind.

It is through Mama’s eyes that we see both daughters and it is Mama who changes. As you read Walker’s story, apply the five steps for analysis that are in the Analyzing Literature reading this week–and also try to use the literary terms listed in that reading when you write your discussion board response (where applicable).

Question 1361 ERNEST HEMINGWAY “HILLS LIKE WHITE ELEPHANTS”

DISCUSION ERNEST HEMINGWAY “HILLS LIKE WHITE ELEPHANTS” . His writing style was very influential among modernist writers—it is sparse and clean, but upon close reading, reveals great depths.

In his 1932 novel Death in the Afternoon, Hemingway had this to say about writers, and it tells us a great deal about his approach to his own work: If a writer of prose knows enough about what he is writing about he may omit things that he knows and the reader, if the writer is writing truly enough, will have a feeling of those things as strongly as though the writer had stated them.

The dignity of movement of an iceberg is due to only one-eighth of it being above water. Please answer the following questions about the story.

1.Identify and explain something Hemingway has included in this story that helps the reader figure out what is being discussed–without him ever having to say it. (You may need to figure out the topic of their conversation first).

There are clues everywhere, but Hemingway doesn’t like to share them too overtly. Let’s find them together. Make sure you not only identify these clues but explain what they mean. (Examples–the landscape, the beaded curtains, the luggage, the elephant Jig mentions, even the dialogue).

2.Using the iceberg theory from the introduction, choose something else besides the operation you think probably has more importance in the story than readers might believe at first, and decide whether Hemingway has written “truly” enough so that you “have a feeling of [that thing] as strongly as though the writer had stated [it].”

Has he offered enough clues to figure it out? Explain. It’s all right to select something you believe to be minor (it may not be minor at all). Note in this chapter the importance of transition words. See the bottom of page 86 for examples.

An embarrassing situation A dangerous experience An instance of injustice A time you made a mistake A time you made an important decision An unfortunate date A vacation that didn’t go well A day you would like to forget An encounter that changed your life Keep in mind following important tips: 1) Begin your paragraph with a topic sentence.

Your topic sentence (called a “thesis sentence” at the beginning of an essay) needs to identify your subject AND what you are going to say about that subject. For example, the topic on page 86 has the topic sentence, “Creating viral video isn’t easy.”

So, the subject here is “creating a viral video.” That doesn’t tell the reader much. You also need what can be called a “point of significance.” In this case, it is “isn’t easy.” Thus your reader knows immediately what your point of view is going to be about your subject and thus what to expect in this paragraph.

2) The “meat” of your paragraph, that is, the evidence must prove or illustrate your point with facts, details, descriptions, reasons, etc. This is what makes your paragraph or essay interesting and convincing.

Don’t expect your reader to take your word for anything; show your reader that what you are saying is true or accurate. Recreate the experience for them. Pertinent details make the paragraph both believable and interesting.

Question 1377 Tool Creation Directions and Usability Test Memo

There are two final tasks for Level 2 that you must complete. The first task asks you to come up with a tool, made of everyday household items. The purpose of this tool is to offer a more ergonomic experience for students who often stress and strain their bodies when writing papers: looking down at sources, looking back to the computer screen to type, etc.

Then, your job is to write directions on how to construct and use the tool. The second task asks you to conduct usability tests to determine the effectiveness of the tool and your directions and then write a memo that reveals the results of the test. Effective instructions must always be highly reader-centered: meaning they must respond to the needs of readers and users.

Together, these tasks encourage the growth of problem-solving skills, grant you experience conducting usability tests, recording and presenting data, and asks you to practice writing as a producer who thinks like a consumer.

The Particulars While I say above that there are two final tasks to Level 2, we might argue that there are actually four. As I mentioned above, you will need to do the following: With the ergonomic problem in mind, develop and design a tool that helps students overcome that problem.

Your tool doesn’t have to solve the problem completely, but it should still be useful. Then, you have to build the tool using every day household items—or at least items that can be easily obtained via the Internet.

It should be simple enough that almost anyone could make the tool and use it. The deliverable for this task is an instruction set. The instructions must do two things: A) direct the reader how to construct the tool and B) instruct the reader on how to use the tool.

The design and language of this document should keep the reader in mind—who is going to be using this tool and reading your instructions? How can you best convey to these readers how to make and use your tool via text and design? The next step is to have no fewer than 2, but ideally 3 (three is the magic number) people attempt to construct and use the tool you designed. This is the actual usability test.

You should conduct this test in a controlled environment to avoid outside interference and to prevent skewed test results. Observe any difficulties the subjects experience with the instructions doing so will help you revise your instructions to make them even better.

Record the amount of time that subjects require to understand and correctly construct and use the tool. Also note any questions which you’re not allowed to answer! that the subjects ask or anything else that subjects do or say while constructing and using the tool.

You might encourage your subjects to “think out loud” while completing the usability test. Finally, write the Usability Test Memo. The memo must include the following parts—note them, as the usability test memo genre is different than the memo genre we’ve been writing in up until now.

The memo should be between 2–3 pages, no fewer than 1000 words. Introduction: Remind readers of the topic and target instruction audience Objectives: Identify the objectives of your user test Method: Thoroughly, accurately, and persuasively describe test procedure and instruments, and user selection process Results / Discussion: Specifically, and in great detail, report test results.

Include descriptions of tester difficulties and questions Conclusion: Describe test results and their consequences. What are you going to do moving forward? Things to Keep in Mind The key thing that you’re trying to accomplish with this task is to convey to others, in writing alone, how to build and use a tool. But, the formatting of the instructions and to some extent the usability test memo is up to you.

What makes the most sense in terms of design and formatting for this rhetorical situation? Minimum Requirements for Instructions Between the creation and how to use the tool, there should be no fewer than four (4) steps.

You must design the instructions with your audience and purpose in mind You must develop a tool that helps to address the issue of ergonomics when writing papers using ordinary, easy-to-obtain materials.

The instructions must be organized and easy-to-follow You must research the problem that your tool intends to assuage Minimum Usability Test Memo Have 2–3 people build and use the tool you created based on your composed instructions alone Ethically record the successes and failures of the instruction set during the usability tests.

Your usability test memo must contain and adequately treat all parts of the genre: Introduction, Objectives, Methods, Results, and Conclusion Your usability test memo should be 2–3 pages long, no fewer than 1000 words, and should adhere to the memo genre’s formatting conventions.

Write and design your memo with an audience and purpose in mind Minimum Requirements for Level-up Memo In many ways, the Level-up Memo is more important than the deliverables themselves. This is where the learning actuallyoccurs, so take this seriously.

To that end, you Level-up Memo must address all of the below prompts in order to beat this level. The memo should be between 1–2 pages long. Who is your audience for each deliverable? What have you done in terms of design and choice of language to appeal to these audiences?

What purposes, apart from the obvious ones, do your deliverables fulfill? (Hint: You might have to think about this some). What were the results of your usability test?

How did you revise your instructions as a result? In your own estimation, what are the most effective elements of your materials? Why do you think so? If given more time and resources, what would you have like to have done differently?

How do you think that these differences would have improved your materials? If you chose to pursue a Composite (C) score, what did you do, specifically, to modify your materials beyond the minimum requirements? How did your modifications make your materials even better?

Question 1378 Code of Conduct Memo

Write a 1-page memo in which you address the situation, emphasizing the violation of the company’s code of conduct.

In your document, you should:

1. Ensure the memo is clear and brief.

2. Choose language to match the purpose and tone for the situation and audience.

3. Format the memo accurately and according to the details in the textbook.

4.
