Men from several western<br \/>\ncounties, many of them Revolutionary war veterans from leading families, violently opposed the high<br \/>\ntaxes levied by the legislature to pay war debts. It was an ironic turn of events. In the 1760s, the British \u2013<br \/>\nlooking for ways to pay their debt for the Seven Years War \u2013 decided to tax the colonists to increase<br \/>\nBritish revenue. As we know, this led to the American Revolution. In the 1780s, the colonists were now<br \/>\nin control of their own government, and \u2013 looking for ways to pay their debt from the American<br \/>\nrevolution and the new republic \u2013 settled on taxing the colonists. Colonists in western counties argued<br \/>\nthat they weren\u2019t represented in the eastern-dominated legislature, and they rebelled. Shays rebellion<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/homeworknest.com\/blog\/history-of-arab-israeli-conflict\/\">would end relatively quickly, but what is interesting is that they viewed the new American government<\/a><br \/>\nin the same light as the old British one. They called it \u201ctyrannical,\u201d and claimed \u201cwhenever any<br \/>\nencroachments are made either upon the liberties or properties of the people, if redress cannot be had<br \/>\nwithout, it is virtue in them to disturb government.\u201d In this blog post, address this history in at least 2<br \/>\nparagraphs in your response to the following prompt: Was the Revolution truly a revolution, or simply a<br \/>\nshift of power from one ruling class to another? Address Shay\u2019s Rebellion and relevant evidence.<br \/>\nArticulate a specific position (perspective, thesis\/hypothesis) imaginatively, taking into account the<br \/>\ncomplexities of an issue. The explosion of the battleship Maine was the catalyst for the US going to<br \/>\nwar in Spain and thus acquiring an empire. However, while Spain was blamed for the explosion of the<br \/>\nship, it was not actually at fault. My question to you all is whether it matters? Do the reasons for going<br \/>\nfor war actually matter or do the ends justify the means? Most people do not question nowadays how<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.homeworknest.com\/sign-in.php\">we have Puerto Rico, or Guam, or the leasing of Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, yet these changes were the<\/a><br \/>\nresult of the Spanish-American War. More men died of fever and disease than the actual war itself, and<br \/>\nthe US then found itself in a guerilla-style insurrection war in the Philippines. Again, do the ends justify<br \/>\nthe means? Or if the reasons for war are obfuscated, is the war in and of itself unjustified? I realize this<br \/>\nis a complicated question. I am asking you to answer the very best you can. Remember, if you are<br \/>\nlooking to do well you want to demonstrate you have read and understood the text. Due Monday, May 14,<br \/>\n2018 @ 9:00 AM (Eastern Time). The assignment is a Blog Post no longer than one page. One of the<br \/>\nmain focuses of this week\u2019s readings was the development of political parties and political life and<br \/>\ndiscourse of the Early Republic and Antebellum era, which is roughly the period from 1789 to 1860.<br \/>\nReason.tv has made \u201cmodern\u201d attack ads by using direct quotes from John Adams and Thomas<br \/>\nJefferson. In public comments, political rivals frequently attacked not only their opponents credibility<br \/>\nand policies, but their racial heritage, their manliness, their religious principles, and even their wives and<br \/>\nfamilies. After watching the link \u201cAttack Ads in the Antebellum Era, In their Own Words\u201d address the<br \/>\nfollowing prompt: What is the primary political legacy of the Early Republic and Antebellum era on<br \/>\ncontemporary American life? And in what ways are American political campaigns today different from<br \/>\nthat era, and in what ways are they similar? https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Y_zTN4BXvYI<br \/>\nQuestion 4392 Civil Rights: Then and Now<br \/>\nIn the 1960s, the civil rights movement was at its height. Congress passed the Civil Rights Act and Voting<br \/>\nRights Act in 1964 and 1965, which first outlawed segregation in public places and dismantled laws that<br \/>\npreviously had prevented people from voting based on their race. Basically, these two laws finally<br \/>\nbuffered the 14th and 15th amendments, both of which were passed during Reconstruction. This<br \/>\ninformation is covered in Chapter 29 in further detail. The United States was not the only place<br \/>\nexperiencing a civil rights movement. South Africa, Northern Ireland, India, etc. are just a few places<br \/>\ngoing through the same thing. During graduate school, I lived in Northern Ireland for a semester. It is a<br \/>\nprovince of the United Kingdom that for many years sustained a long-term conflict between the majority<br \/>\nProtestant population and the minority Catholic populace. Catholics often complained that they were<br \/>\ndiscriminated against in jobs, education, housing, and unfairly targeted by police. Does that sound<br \/>\nfamiliar to Americans? It should. Stick with me here, because I have a point, but I need to explain a few<br \/>\nthings to get there. This conflict between Catholics and Protestants went on for years. Conflict is a nice<br \/>\nword for war, because that is essentially what it was. For the better part of 30 years, 3,000 people were<br \/>\nkilled (in a place that is the size a few Chicago suburbs put together, so it\u2019s a significant number) and<br \/>\ngenerations were affected by violence. In the 1990s, though, most of the groups on both sides (not all)<br \/>\nsought peace and a comprehensive peace agreement was agreed upon by a huge landslide vote. Part of<br \/>\nthe peace agreement addressed a long-standing grievance about Catholics not trusting the police force<br \/>\nthat was overwhelmingly (95%) Protestant. Catholics simply did not join. In the years that followed the<br \/>\nagreement, the police force, which had been highly militarized during the conflict (understandably so)<br \/>\nbegan to appear less militarized and more like a community type of police, and heavily recruited<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.homeworknest.com\/sign-in.php\">Catholics and other minorities to join the force. Since then the force is much more reflective of the <\/a>populace. It must be noted that not everyone sits around and sings kumbaya now.\u00a0\u00a0However,<br \/>\nsometimes you have to fake it till you make it, and real progress has been made. (My master\u2019s thesis<br \/>\nwas on this conflict so I am writing simply from memory and knowledge of events.) So here is the bridge:<br \/>\nClearly in this country we are experiencing a similar gulf between minority citizens and police.<br \/>\nDepending on the color of your skin, the neighborhood you live in, your socio-economic status, our<br \/>\nperception of law enforcement seems to vary based on our differed experiences. While our police forces<br \/>\ntend to be more diverse than that of Northern Ireland, they are still not always reflective of the neighborhoods they patrol. (Please note I am not necessarily arguing that they must be; I am simply<br \/>\nstating what exists.) In this discussion board, therefore, I would like you to engage in an exchange of<br \/>\ndialogue about race, policing and community relations. What are the demographics of your local<br \/>\ntown\/neighborhood? (I am not asking you to look at the census, but just simply comment on what you<br \/>\nsee.) Would you describe your community as diverse, and along with that, I suppose you need to<br \/>\ndescribe what you perceive as diversity. What is the socio-economic status (if you feel comfortable<br \/>\ntalking about it) of your community? Furthermore, discuss your perception of police in your<br \/>\nneighborhood and in general. How would you characterize your interactions with police in your local<br \/>\ncommunity? How much do you think those interactions have affected how you view the issues of law<br \/>\nenforcement and community relations in a wider context? President Obama, on his way out of office,<br \/>\nopined that we are not as divided as we appear. Do you agree with this statement? Or has the progress<br \/>\nsince the 1960s been more superficial in nature and we remain deeply segregated and racially divided? I<br \/>\nwould like for us to engage in dialogue on this topic in a way that allows us to share our viewpoints,<br \/>\nwhatever they may be. This is controversial in nature, but these are the very topics deserving discussion,<br \/>\nand if we cannot do it in an academic setting, then where and when can we? I am very much looking<br \/>\nforward to reading your responses.<\/p>\n<h1>Question 4393<\/h1>\n<p>Monograph on Puerto Rico and how it became a commonwealth<br \/>\ni need to use an article that is in Spanish and i need to reference law 600. Your final paper<br \/>\nshould be 4 pages in length. Your paper should be double-spaced with standard 12 point font and one-<br \/>\ninch margins. Your paper should include a title page as well as a bibliography; neither the title page nor<br \/>\nthe bibliography should be counted towards fulfilling the length requirement. Your paper should include<br \/>\nin-text citations in either the MLA or APA format. An excellent guide to citations is available through the<br \/>\nPurdue Online Writing Lab. You may choose any topic related to American history in the period from the<br \/>\nseventeenth century through Reconstruction. It is very important for you to choose a topic that is<\/p>\n<p>contentious or open to debate. For the assignment, you will be asked to consider multiple viewpoints.<br \/>\nYour essay should include a thesis statement and evidence to support your thesis statement. A thesis<br \/>\nstatement is an assertion that you are seeking to prove. A thesis statement must be open to debate and<br \/>\nnot a simple statement of fact. You are required to use source material to defend your argument or<br \/>\nthesis. I would like you to find a minimum of 5 sources related to your topic. These sources should<br \/>\ninclude both primary sources and secondary sources. A primary source is a document written by<br \/>\nsomeone who actually participated in the historic event being discussed. A secondary source is a<br \/>\ndocument written by a scholar or historian with no direct experience of the event discussed. Your<br \/>\nsources may be books, articles, or online materials. Also, I ask that you use one source related to your<br \/>\ntopic from a discipline outside of history. For example, you could use an article from a political science<br \/>\njournal, a sociology journal, an economics journal, etc. Many scholars outside of the field of history have<br \/>\nvaluable insight to offer on historical events. JSTOR, a collection of journal articles available online<br \/>\nthrough Hatch Library, is a very valuable tool for locating sources from a variety of disciplines. For this<br \/>\nassignment, it is crucial that you evaluate sources that offer multiple and varied perspectives on your<br \/>\ntopic. In order to develop a full and well-rounded understanding of any topic, it is crucial to examine<br \/>\nvaried perspectives. For example, if you were to argue that the Constitution represented a positive and<br \/>\nprogressive revision of the United States government, it is important to include some evaluation of the<br \/>\nopposing viewpoint. You would need to include an analysis of the arguments that were made against<br \/>\nthe ratification of the Constitution. Your essay should be well written and free of grammatical and<br \/>\nspelling errors. Please proofread your essay before submitting it. Evaluate and apply diverse<br \/>\nperspectives to complex subjects within the humanities in the face of multiple and even conflicting<br \/>\npositions (i.e. cultural, disciplinary, and ethical). Evaluate and synthesize information from multiple<br \/>\nsources and draw conclusions by combining examples, facts, or theories from more than one field of<br \/>\nstudy or perspective. Articulate a specific position (perspective, thesis\/hypothesis) imaginatively, taking<br \/>\ninto account the complexities of an issue. Limits are acknowledged. Others\u2019 points of view are<br \/>\nsynthesized. Fully integrate alternate, divergent, or contradictory perspectives or ideas.<\/p>\n<h1>Question 4396 Comparive Essay<\/h1>\n<p>Students, please view the \u201cSubmit a Clickable Rubric Assignment\u201d in the Student Center. Assignment 2: Project Paper \u2013 Comparative<br \/>\nEssay Due Week 7 and worth 200 points This \u201cAssignment 2\u201d writing assignment is a comparative essay<br \/>\nfocused on topics encountered in our HUM 111 class. The project will be based on research but will<br \/>\nreflect your views and interpretation of the topic. This project is designed to help you stretch your mind<br \/>\nand your abilities as an organized, innovative, and critical thinker. If approached properly, it should also<br \/>\nbe fun! Choose one (1) of the topics from the list of topic choices below. Read the topic carefully. Write<br \/>\na three to four (3-4) page paper (750-1,000 words) that follows instructions and covers each part of the<br \/>\ntopic. (The title page and References list do not get included in this word count). Note: Your instructor<br \/>\nmay require you to submit your topic choice for approval before the end of Week 5. For the topic you<br \/>\nchoose: Establish a clear thesis about your topic as part of the introductory paragraph (often the thesis<br \/>\nis the last thing one determines after doing the basic research and outline; however it will be placed in<br \/>\nthe first paragraph of your paper). This is a comparative essay. Comparison approached properly will<\/p>\n<p>require some critical thinking on your part. Use a point-by-point approach for the essay. That means, if<br \/>\ncomparing subject A with subject B, don\u2019t do the first half of the essay on subject A and then the second<br \/>\nhalf on subject B\u2013that will seem like two (2) separate essays and comparisons will tend to get lost.<br \/>\nInstead, you should be mentioning both subjects in most of your paragraphs as you compare them<br \/>\nthroughout the essay. Comparisons will identify similarities as well as contrasts. Do not try to do<br \/>\neverything on your two (2) subjects. You should end up narrowing your focus to a few insights and<br \/>\nissues about the subjects being compared. And, from those fairly specific points of comparison, you will<br \/>\ndevelop a thesis and glean some lessons. Follow closely the instructions below for your specific topic.<br \/>\nInclude a concluding paragraph at the end. This paragraph will, in some way, refer back to the thesis<br \/>\nestablished in your first paragraph, since now you have demonstrated and supported it. It may be here<br \/>\nthat you also include your observations relating your study to the modern workplace or society (see<br \/>\nyour topic). Try to finish with flair! Use at least three (3) good quality academic sources, with one (1)<br \/>\nsource being the class text. Note: Wikipedia and other similar Websites do not qualify as academic<br \/>\nresources. You are highly encouraged to use the Resource Center tab at the top of your Blackboard<br \/>\npage. Topic Choices \u2013 Choose just one (1) of the topics below: Qualities of the Hero: Comparing<br \/>\nGilgamesh and Odysseus. Write an essay comparing these two (2) heroic figures from ancient epics of<br \/>\ndifferent cultures, especially focusing your analysis on the sources about their encounters with<br \/>\nmonsters: Gilgamesh encounters the monster guarding the forest, Humbaba, in Tablets 3-5 of the Epic<br \/>\nof Gilgamesh (see http:\/\/www.ancienttexts.org\/library\/mesopotamian\/gilgamesh\/; scroll down to the<br \/>\nTablet links; think of \u201cTablet\u201d numbers like chapter numbers).\u201d Odysseus encounters Polyphemus the<br \/>\nCyclops in Book 9 of The Odyssey (see http:\/\/www.theoi.com\/Text\/HomerOdyssey9.html; from line 105<br \/>\nto the end). Your paper should: a) Compare Gilgamesh and Odysseus as to their heroic qualities, noting<br \/>\nsimilarities and differences, using specific examples from the epics. b) Summarize what this indicates<br \/>\nabout differences between ancient Mesopotamian and Greek cultures in their ideals and expectations.<br \/>\nc) From this comparison, suggest ways that current cultural ideals and expectations shape modern<br \/>\nnotions about role models and heroes. Confucius and Aristotle on Virtue. Write an essay comparing<br \/>\nthese two (2) ancient thinkers on the concept of virtue or good ethical character and conduct. Stay<br \/>\nfocused on the issue; keep any biographical or other information short or limited. As much as possible,<br \/>\nanalyze their writings (in translation, of course), using Confucius\u2019 Analects (at<br \/>\nhttp:\/\/classics.mit.edu\/Confucius\/analects.html ) and Aristotle\u2019s Nicomachean Ethics (at<br \/>\nhttp:\/\/classics.mit.edu\/Aristotle\/nicomachaen.html ). Your paper should: a) Compare the teachings of<br \/>\nConfucius and Aristotle on what constitutes virtue or good ethical character and conduct, noting<br \/>\nsimilarities and differences in specific ideas or emphasis. b) Consider what your findings suggest about<br \/>\ndifferences between ancient Chinese and ancient Greek culture. c) From this comparison, suggest ideas<br \/>\nof virtue that can apply to ethics in a modern setting, such as a diverse workplace. Comparing Sculptures<br \/>\nof Ancient India and Greece. Write an essay comparing the way gods and humans were depicted in<br \/>\nsculpture in ancient India and Greece, and identify the cultural values and ideals that these art works<br \/>\nreflect in each case. Your paper should: a) Using specific examples, compare the way gods and people<br \/>\nwere depicted in the sculptures of ancient India and Greece, noting similarities and differences. b)<br \/>\nIdentify the cultural values and ideals that these art works reflect for each society. c) From this<br \/>\ncomparison, suggest a modern situation of artistic expression and the ways it reflects or counters<br \/>\nprevailing cultural values. Comparing Ancient Skeptics. Write an essay comparing Lucretius and Wang<\/p>\n<p>Chong (=Wang Ch\u2019ung), skeptical philosophers of ancient Rome and China. They were skeptical about<br \/>\npopular religious and spiritual beliefs and widely-held superstitions. Lucretius was an Epicurean<br \/>\nphilosopher of Roman culture (Chapter 6). Wang Ch\u2019ung was a thinker in ancient Chinese culture<br \/>\n(Chapter 7). For Lucretius, focus on Book 5 of his On the Nature of Things as found at<br \/>\nhttp:\/\/johnstoniatexts.x10host.com\/lucretius\/lucretius5html.html (good helpful commentary at the end<br \/>\nof this web page). For Wang Ch\u2019ung (=Wang Chong), focus on the segments of his On Spirits as found at<br \/>\nhttps:\/\/en.wikisource.org\/wiki\/Gems_of_Chinese_Literature\/Wang_Ch\u2018ung-On_Spirits . a) Using<br \/>\nexamples from their writings, compare these two (2) thinkers on their views about specific subjects and<br \/>\non their approach in explaining and expressing their skepticism. b) From this comparison, identify<br \/>\npopular beliefs in each culture that seem similar and those that seem different. c) From this comparison,<br \/>\nsuggest any modern situation in which materialist skeptics confront spiritual and religious beliefs, and<br \/>\ncomment on the considerations of free expression and cultural respect. Comparing Ancient Male Rulers.<br \/>\nTake any two (2) of these rulers and write an essay comparing them: Ramses II, Shihuangdi, Constantine,<br \/>\nAshoka, Pericles, or Charlemagne. Select rulers from different cultures. You may also propose (for<br \/>\napproval or not) a ruler not listed. Avoid lengthy quoting or lengthy close paraphrasing from<br \/>\nbiographical sources. Make it YOUR comparative analysis. Your paper should: a) Compare the two (2)<br \/>\nrulers in terms of their situation and methods of rule and their apparent ideals and practices, noting<br \/>\nsimilarities and differences. Use specific examples. b) Consider what your study suggests about the<br \/>\ncultures over which they ruled, identifying any similarities and differences between the cultures. c) From<br \/>\nthis comparison, suggest lessons about different types of effective leadership in the world of modern<br \/>\nbusiness and \/ or modern politics. Comparing Ancient Female Rulers. Compare the Tang Empress Wu<br \/>\nZetian (also known as Empress Wu or as Wu Zhao; ruled China around 690-705 AD) with either the<br \/>\nPharaoh Cleopatra (ruled Egypt around 51-31 BC) or the Pharaoh Hatshepsut (ruled Egypt around 1478-<br \/>\n1458 BC). You may also propose (for approval or not) a female ruler not listed. Avoid lengthy quoting or<br \/>\nlengthy close paraphrasing from biographical sources. Make it YOUR comparative analysis. Your paper<br \/>\nshould: a) Compare the two (2) rulers in terms of their situation and ascent to power, their methods of<br \/>\nrule, and their achievements and resourcefulness, noting similarities and differences. Use specific<br \/>\nexamples. b) Consider what your study suggests about the cultures over which they ruled, identifying<br \/>\nany similarities and differences between the cultures. c) From this comparison, suggest lessons about<br \/>\ndifferent types of effective leadership by a female in the world of modern business and \/ or modern<br \/>\npolitics. Other topic choice using a comparative approach (proposed by student or instructor) and<br \/>\napproved by the professor and supported by the grading rubric.
